On 16th of April, UNESCO Office in Havana hosted the third session of the Management Committee of the project “Heritage Recovery and Cultural Development in Havana: Segundo Cabo Palace” in the presence of Representatives of the EU delegation in Cuba and the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana (OHCH). During this annual meeting, the different partners reviewed the implementation report of the project and the activities realized since February 2012.

The Project "Heritage Recovery and Cultural Development in Havana: Segundo Cabo Palace" is a multilateral cooperation initiative of the European Union and UNESCO, that aims at the restoration of the Segundo Cabo Palace, an emblematic monument in Old Havana, and at strengthening cooperation between Cuba and the European Union in the cultural field.

The Office of the Historian of the City of Havana (OHCH) is in charge of the restoration of the building and of its future cultural use. Indirectly, the project also contributes to improve the state of conservation of the World Heritage site of "Old Havana and its System of Fortifications”, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1982.

The Project is funded by the Thematic Programme of the European Union (EU): Investing in people and will allow, following the complete restoration of the building, to set up a cultural centre on the relations between Cuba and Europe, thus contributing to the rapprochement of cultures and intercultural dialogue. The project will be implemented until June 2014.

During the third session of the Management Committee, the partners reviewed the recommendations issued previously by the Committee and their implementation from February 2012 to April 2013. Therefore the Management Committee presented the current situation status of the restoration process and identified possible alternatives to face unexpected difficulties. Moreover they discussed about the future cultural purpose of the building.
