Africa and the Small Island Developing States: a Priority
UNESCO Liaison Office in Brussels works in close cooperation with the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP).
Africa and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are both key priorities for the UNESCO.
In order to ensure an adequate response to the needs, the Organization established an Africa Department and a SIDS platform, responsible for promoting, coordinating and monitoring UNESCO’s actions in these areas.
In cooperation with the African Union, UNESCO enhances the knowledge of African students of their continent's history and contribution to the general progress of humanity, and promotes the teaching of history based on African cultural perspective.
In 2009, UNESCO launched the second phase of the General History of Africa project which aims at adapting the contents of the volumes of the General History of Africa to school teaching.
