Safeguard and share our culture
UNESCO celebrates the 40th anniversary of the adoption of the World Heritage Convention, an occasion to highlight the role of heritage and culture as catalysts for sustainable development and to emphasize the role of local communities in this endeavour.
“World Heritage is a building block for peace and a motor for development. It is a source of identity and knowledge to be shared,” said Ms Bokova.
Did You Know...
Only 7% of World Heritage Sites are located in the Arab States and 9% are located in Africa, while 48% are located in Europe and North America, 22% in Asia Pacific, and 14% in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
