UNESCO Future Lecture: Perspectives on Strategic Foresight

The Foresight Section of the Bureau of Strategic Planning organized a UNESCO Future Lecture on the theme “Perspectives on Strategic Foresight” on Monday, 1 October 2012 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Room XIV (Bonvin). Participants included Permanent Delegations, UNESCO Staff and guests from UNESCO’s scientific communities.

Opened by Hans d’Orville, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning, the lecture was delivered by Dr Martin Rhisiart, Director of the Centre for Research in Futures and Innovation from the University of Glamorgan in Wales and Jerome Glenn, Co-Founder and Director of the Millennium Project - Global Futures Studies and Research.

Martin Rhisiart delivered a lecture entitled “Recent Developments in Strategic Foresight: At a turning point?”. Jerome Glenn presented The Millennium Project’s “2012 State of the Future Report,” and introduced the forthcoming Global Futures Collective Intelligence System.

Invited discussant was Mr Ousman Blondin Diop, Minister Counselor and Former Permanent Delegate of Senegal to UNESCO.
