Management of World Heritage Sites

In cooperation with the Ministry of Antiquities, UNESCO Cairo hosted the course on “Management of World Heritage Sites” as part of its capacity building programme to enhance the management and conservation of World Heritage Sites in Egypt.

More than 30 inspectors and sites managers, from the six cultural sites inscribed in the World Heritage List and from several sites inscribed in the World Heritage Tentative list, came to the UNESCO Cairo new premises in 6 of October city to attend a one-week seminar. The main focus was fostering technical skills of Ministry's employees, sites managers and inspectors in the Management Plan for the sites under their responsibility.

This workshop builds on the outcomes of previous biennium initiatives supporting capacity building courses in the framework of the implementation of the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972.

Participants shared the motive that cultural heritage is our legacy from the past that we live with today and that we have the responsibility to pass on to future generations.
