National Conference on Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Education (SDG-4)

on May 22nd and 23rd, 2017 UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab Region in Cairo co-organized a national conference on SDG-4 under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Education and Technical Education, along with the National Center for Educational Research and Development (NCERD) in its capacity as national focal point for SDG-4. The conference was entirely geared towards mainstreaming SDG-4 on the national level and developing a nationally-owned, nationally-approved, executable, and time-bound plan for adopting and monitoring SDG-4’s targets on the national level. This endeavor has effectively positioned Egypt among the first countries in the Arab region to hold a conference with such a scale in order to develop its national SDG-4 workplan.

The conference brought together 250 participants from concerned agencies and stakeholders on the national level, who were divided on the second day into seven working groups (one group per SDG-4 target) to develop the national workplan.

This conference is one of many efforts exerted by UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab Region in Cairo to build national capacities in synthetizing, mainstreaming, and monitoring SDG-4 on the national level.
