Gender is a cross cutting priority for UNESCO. In line with UNESCO’s “Gender Equality Action Plan” (2008-2013), UNESCO Cairo Office is following strategic actions by program sectors to ensure gender is mainstreamed in all relevant activities, and as much as possible that women’s empowerment takes place through gender-specific programming. UCO activities with a positive impact on gender equality actions and outcomes include the following examples:
TOOLKIT FOR GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN EGYPT
The toolkit is designed to familiarize the relevant stakeholders working in the field of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) with the current gaps, strategies and methodologies that are of practical use in introducing gender perspectives relevant to the water management sector. The toolkit is addressed to all actors with direct or indirect interest in the topic at hand, whether public or private stakeholders on the different administrative levels (central, governorate and community levels). The toolkit outlines theoretical backgrounds and presents Egyptian case study on gender mainstreaming in the water management sector in addition to illustrating practical steps that can be taken to enhance women’s participation and the potential obstacles to this enhancement (for more info in Arabic and English, please click here).
