Message from UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka

Message from Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka for the Global Forum on Media and Gender, Bangkok, 2-4 December 2013.

UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka spoke for the First Global forum on Media and Gender organized by UNESCO in Bangkok, Thailand between the 2nd and 4th of December 2013. Women and Media was a critical area identified in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action during the Fourth Conference on Woman in Beijing in 1995. Many more women have been working for the media as Journalists, reporters, editors but the progress has been too slow. We need women in decision making positions within media organizations as well as more content free from gender stereotype. The media must become a force of change and make the 21st century a century for women.
