Women On the Homepage - March 2016

As a global community we all can play a role in promoting gender equality in the media. The Internet is a massive medium of communication with over 1 trillion webpages. The homepages of your websites are like primetime news.

UNESCO and the Global Alliance on Media and Gender (GAMAG) call for partners to feature women on their homepage through 2016 to inspire change towards gender equality.

Each month of 2016 designated to a theme which is related to objectives of the Beijing Platform for Action. The theme for the month of March concerns “International Women’ Day - Promoting and calling for public policy action on gender and media”.

We invite stakeholders to participate in the

  • Write a clear and simple caption for the image
  • Link a strong paragraph to the image describing the person selected
  • Keep your chosen image above the scroll (on the upper half of the homepage)
  • Add “share” buttons to it
  • Tell UNESCO about your actions by completing this short form.

2016 is an important year for women and their empowerment. In this year, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals begins. Women and girls are still underrepresented in all spheres, including media and technology.
The Beijing Platform for Action which diagnoses gender inequalities and proposes concrete actions to be taken by various actors in order to achieve equal opportunities for women and men – girls and boys – accentuates the importance of media and technology.
