National Implementation Strategy Workshop on Open Educational Resources (OER) in Nairobi, Kenya

UNESCO will support the Ministry of Education to carry out a 2-day consultation meeting at the Kenya Institute of Education, Nairobi, Kenya from 19 to 20 June 2013. The meeting themed : National Implementation Strategy: Contextualizing of the ICT CFT and harnessing OER for the development of teacher training materials aims to harness Open Educational Resources (OER) for effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by supporting effective teacher training for integration of ICT in classrooms in Kenya.
Participants to the National Implementation Strategy are drawn from the Ministry of Education, non governmental organizations, representatives from associations of school principals, school administrators, teacher associations and unions.
This activity is part of UNESCO’s continued efforts of promoting the application of ICTs to enhance the quality of and access to education, including the stimulation of production, sharing and access to open educational resources (OERs). The activity is a direct follow-up to implementation of the Paris OER Declaration that was adopted in June 2012 at the UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, France.
The meeting which has attracted participation from Ministry of Education officials, Pre-service and In-service Teacher education entities, NGOs, representatives of associations of school principals, school administrators, teacher associations and unions aims at harnessing of OER for effective use of the ICT CFT by supporting effective teacher training for the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the classroom.

The activities of the meeting should be based on the ICT in Education Teachers Professional Development Kit produced by UNESCO and COL. This event is part of UNESCO’s continued efforts of promoting the application of ICTs to enhance the quality of and access to education, including the stimulation of production, sharing and access to open educational resources (OER).
