Open content licensing for educators (OCL4Ed) is a free Online workshop designed as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for educators and students who want to learn more about open educational resources, copyright and creative commons licenses. The course materials were developed as a collaborative project by volunteers from the OER Foundation, WikiEducator, the OpenCourseWare Consortium and Creative Commons with funding support from UNESCO.
First piloted in March 2011, there have been 2 workshops in 2012 with 1,583 registrations from more than 90 countries. The OCL4Ed initiative has now offered free training opportunities to more than 2,000 educators worldwide. The pre and post workshop self-evaluations from the January 2012 workshop and other offerings provide evidence of learning.
This workshop contributes to the implementation of the 2012 Paris OER Declaration adopted at the 2012 World OER Congress, specifically article (e) of the which calls for “capacity building for sustainable development of quality learning materials”.
