Syair Almarhum Baginda Sultan Abu Bakar di Negeri Johor - Na Tian Piet

Documentary heritage submitted for inclusion in the Memory of the World Register in 2012.

A total of 1400 Syair verses altogether, is a responsible, authentic and accountable literary presentation depicting the social, cultural, economic and political scenario in the context of South-East Asia during the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor (1862-1895). Na Tien Piet expressed respect and admiration for Sultan Abu Bakar of which he depicted as a monarch incomparable to any ruler of the period, especially for his equitable and non-discriminatory approach to his people who were of diverse race, culture and religion. Na Tien Piet himself is Chinese-peranakan Christian. Its oblivion would be a great loss in understanding the literary, historical, cultural, political and economic aspects of a monarch system.
