The fonds of Røros Copper Works
Documentary heritage submitted for inclusion in the Memory of the World Register in 2012.
The nominated material consists of the fonds of Røros Copper Works. It covers the period from 1644 to 1977, and has an extent of 250 shelf meters. The fonds is the largest, most important, and most reliable source of information about the history of the UNESCO World Heritage site Røros and Circumference.
The experimental operation of the Røros Copper Works began in 1644, and the company was granted its privileges in 1646. It is one of the oldest and largest mining fonds preserved in Norway.
