UNESCO was an active participant in the Tunis meeting of the World Summit on the Information Society organizing three events and an exhibition promoting the concept of building “knowledge societies”:
- A High-Level Round Table on “Shaping the Future through Knowledge”. Drawing on the thematic consultations of the months before the Summit and the"UNESCO World Report 2005: Towards Knowledge Societies" , the Round Table was a political and strategies event, highlighting key ideas and principles which UNESCO seeks to promote to help increase people’s access to and use of information and knowledge for human development.
(17 November 2005, 3-6 p.m., Room "Amilcar") - A Round Table on the "Role of UNESCO in the Construction of Knowledge Societies through the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme”. The event reviewed national, regional and world experiences in implementing UNESCO Chairs and networks in ICT and considered how this UNESCO mechanism can help to bridge existing information and knowledge gaps.
(18 November 2005, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Room "St Augustin") - A Workshop on "ICT and Persons with Disabilities".
