Relevant African Media standards
Regional instruments are important because they set standards for different countries around freedom of expression, access to information and the ethical obligations of journalists. Countries can then be assessed according to how they have met these standards, and are further encouraged to adopt laws, policies and practices that give effect to these standards. Some of these standards have been spearheaded by non-governmental organisations such as the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) and others by official bodies such as the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights
