Belgium
The media landscape in Belgium reflects the specific linguistic and political structure of the country. This is reflected in the self-regulatory mechanisms, with separate ones for the Flemish, French and German speaking communities and in legislation such as for broadcasting, which falls to the cultural communities as opposed to the federal authorities. Belgium was 20th on the Reporters without Borders Press Freedom Index 2011-2012 and has one of Europe’s strongest laws on the protection of Journalistic Sources.
