Code of Ethics
The Sound Press Ethics of the Danish Press Council cover general principles, the rules of correct information, conduct contrary to sound press ethics and court reporting. The rules operate as the basis for the Press Council’s work in assessing reported violations of the legal standards by workers in the mass media field. Sound press ethics as a legal standard were included as part of the Media Liability Act. Consequently, the standards are part of the press councils operation and are not thus a strict code to abide by for those working in the media; yet, their considerations do play a part as these standards have been developed with other actors, such as the Danish Journalists Union. Moreover, for internet media to fall under the scope of the act and thus applicable to the Press Council’s standards, they much register with the Council. Nevertheless, codes of conduct do exist such as for the two public broadcasters DR and TV2.</xml>
