Code of Ethics

Among France’s media professionals, there is no single code of ethics. Several ethical charters exists such as the Charter of the Professional Duties of French Journalists  adopted by the National Union of Journalists outlining the responsibilities of the proffession starting with "taking responsibility for all his writings." The Syndicat Général as well as the CFDT of Journalists also ascribe to this code. Other shared principles include those of the Munich Charter (1971): Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Journalists which, together for the Charter of Proffessional Duties, are also respected by broadcasting groups. Nevertheless, there are independent ethics codes such as the Charte de l'Antenne of the France Télévision media group. It sets out the responsibilities for all of the stations which include respecting fundamental freedoms and democratic pluralism.
