Associations and Unions
The National Union of Journalists operates both in Britain and Ireland and it is the trade union for journalist in the press, broadcasting and online media. It is the main trade union for media professional, with the 90% of the country’s journalists among its members.
The National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI) is an association representing "16 national daily, Sunday and weekly newspapers and 25 local and regional newspapers with a combined weekly circulation of almost 5.8 m copies" (data from the NNI's website). NNI represents the interest of its members: it works to provide them with a fair legislative framework but also to ensure the best press standards and industry practices in the country.
The Regional Newspapers and Printers Association of Ireland(RNPAI) has 37 member-companies. The main task of the Association is to represent regional newspapers and printers on all relevant national bodies. Also, the Association raises awareness of the importance of the local and regional print in bringing news to local communities.
