Associations and Unions
The Netherlands Union of Journalists aims to defend the interests of all working in the profession: journalists, photographers, programmers, editors, web masters and educators. The is no unified ‘code of ethics’ that is followed but operating principles are drawn from the Code of the International Federation of Journalists (Bordeaux 1954/Helsingör 1986), the Code of Journalism of the Society of Chief Editors and the Guidelines of the Netherlands Press Council.
The Society of Chief Editors (Nederlands Genootschap van Hoofdredacteuren) is an independent association working to represent the professional interests of Dutch editors in chief. It has also adopted its own Code of Journalism in 2008.
The Dutch News Media Association (NDP) is a trade organization for privately funded media companies. Its origins lie as a newspaper publishers organization and has involved to include the digital platform as well. Nevertheless, it still works to promote a strong independent media.
