Republic of Chile
Chile has a strong media accountability system. Both public and private media outlets serve the country’s telecommunication and news needs.
The media landscape is composed of five national and two regional newspapers, about ten TV channels, and more than ten national radio stations. Recently, the government financed and promoted Internet access across Chile, which is now the most connected country in Latin America.
Despite the absence of Media Ombudsmen, Chile has a good Media Accountability System guaranteed by the work of a Press Council. Code of Ethics are also promoted as well as Professional Journalistic Standards through the dayly work of several journalist associations.
