South Asia

This database covers all eight countries under the widest definition of South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It catalogues all the systems of media accountability in place in these countries, without endorsing any one model. It also provides links to current literature on best practices in media accountability – not just within South Asia, but globally.

The database will be updated to provide information on test cases referring to media accountability in countries of South Asia. This includes current rulings of Press Councils, and commentaries, where available. It is sustained through the contributions of International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) affiliates and partner organisations of the South Asia Media Solidarity Network (SAMSN).
