UNESCO promotes community media in order to enhance media pluralism and the inclusion of marginalized communities in policy- and decision-making processes related to sustainable development.
This will result in increasing the opportunities of rural communities to acquire, contextualize and share locally relevant content. All these activities will be implemented with particular attention to gender responsiveness.
UNESCO gives high priority to providing and strengthening communication and information facilities at the level of local communities. Such facilities offer basic tools for introducing and managing community-centred development and change.
