GAPMIL Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Chapter

GAPMIL holds a session about public policies in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region during ABCiber Congress

The annual Congress of ABCiber (Brazilian Association of Professionals in Cyberculture) took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, during the second week of December 2017. The event gathered close to 400 people, including media professionals, researchers and students.

The last session of the Conference was organized by GAPMIL LAC Regional Chapter to discuss the start-up of the mapping of public policies on MIL in LAC region. The issue is a priority for the Regional Chapter, discussed during the GAPMIL General Assembly in 2016.

Alexandre Le Voci Sayad (CEO of ZeitGeist and GAPMIL LAC Regional Chapter coordinator) and Beatrice Bonami (professor from University of Sao Paulo and ABCiber) opened the discussion and chaired the roundtable. Ismar Soares, Esther Hamburger, Brasilina Passaraelli and Gilson Schwartz, from University of Sao Paulo, made their speech about perspective of MIL research and activities.

The Colombian researcher, and academic director of National University of Colombia (UN), Thomas Durán, made a special participation via video.

At the end, the process of mapping the public policies on MIL in LAC region was officially launched to the public who was invited to participate. A preliminary version will be presented during the Global MIL Week 2018 Feature Events, in Lithuania and Latvia.
