Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) – Latin America and the Caribbean contents
At the First Nordic Conference on Scholarly Communication in Lund/Copenhagen the idea of creating a comprehensive directory of Open Access Journals was discussed. The conclusion was that it would be a valuable service for the global research and education community. Open Society Institute (OSI) supported the initial project work undertaken by the Lund University Libraries. Today DOAJ is sponsored by Lund University, INASP, National Library of Sweden, Svensk Bibliotek Forening, Springer.
The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. By September 2015, DOAJ indexes 10,529 OA journals worldwide. Following are the journal numbers from the LAC region: Brazil (1002); Colombia (268); Chile (151); Mexico (159); Argentina (166); Venezuela (60); Cuba (67); Peru (46); Costa Rica (40); Puerto Rico (2); Bolivia (7); Uruguay (10); Bahamas (1)Barbados (1); Guatemala (3); Ecuador (12); Nicaragua (3); Paraguay (2); British Virgin Islands (1); Dominican Republic (1); Jamaica(2).
