Regional strategy, interoperability and management framework for a Latin American network of institutional science repositories (Estrategia Regional y Marco de Interoperabilidad y Gestión para una Red Federada Latinoamericana de Repositorios Institucionales de Documentación Científica)
It is an Inter-American Development Bank (IADB)-Regional Public Goods Funds support program for RedCLARA to build a regional strategy and interoperability framework for a Latin American network of institutional science repositories. This project started in 2010.
The aim of the Project is to contribute to sharing and giving visibility to the scientific production generated in higher education and scientific research institutions of the region; its purpose is the creation of a consensual strategy and a framework of agreements related to interoperability and information management for the development and maintenance of a federated network of institutional scientific publications repositories aimed at storing, sharing and giving visibility to Latin America’s scientific production. Such strategy will be aimed at reaching agreements and establishing policies at a regional level in relation to the storage, federated access and retrieval of the collections and services available, the definition of interoperability standards, use of tools to record documents, security and quality, intellectual property and copyrights, training.
Eight countries of Latin America participate in the program: Argentina (MINCYT-INNOVA/RED), Brasil (IBICT), Chile (CONICYT-REUNA), Colombia (COLCIENCIAS-MEN-RENATA),Ecuador (SENACYT-CEDIA), México (CONACYT-CUDI), Perú (RAAP) and Venezuela (CENIT).
The executing agency of this project is RedCLARA, together with directors of the national academic networks/agencies of member countries and a Technical Committee integrated by technical focal point of each member country.
Expected outcomes of this project are:
- Consensus for a regional strategy for the network
- A framework of policies and agreements for interoperability and management
- An operative working model developed as result of a pilot project
- A regional training strategy
