Training of Women Journalists from Arab Media
Today opens a UNESCO EU Workshop on advanced desk top publishing techniques in Amman, Jordan . The two-week workshop, a part of the UNESCO/EU Project "Promotion of Independent and Pluralistic Arab Media" seeks to contribute to capacity building of women journalists in Arab media.
Key words underpinning the event are media democratisation; women empowerment and their access to ICTs. Participating will be women journalists from Lebanon, Syria; Egypt; Yemen; the Palestinian Authority and the host country Jordan.
UNESCO considers that women should be actively involved in news production and be able to master the latest communication technologies. This is to ensure that their views are accurately reflected in national media landscapes. UNESCO believes that communication can be a driving force in the promotion of women's responsible participation in a context of peace and equality.
