Twenty advocates speak out for press freedom in the lead up to World Press Freedom Day
Starting today, in the countdown to 3 May, UNESCO will release a series of 20 video-interviews about press freedom to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of World Press Freedom Day.
In the interviews, journalists, bloggers and experts from around the world address fundamental questions about the past, present and future of press freedom. Every day a new interview will be released.
World Press Freedom Day is dedicated to the defense of freedom of expression around the world. This year, the main conference will take place in San José, Costa Rica, from 2 to 4 May.
For 2013, UNESCO has chosen the theme “Safe to Speak: Securing Freedom of Expression in All Media", focusing on the safety of journalists, the issue of impunity in crimes against journalists, and Internet freedom as a precondition for online safety.
