UNESCO Supports Training of Women Radio Broadcasters in Senegal
A four-week training course for women moderators of AFIA.FM, a community radio broadcasting in the region of Senegal's capital Dakar is presently taking place at the UNESCO Dakar Office. The aim of the training course is to train women in the basics skills needed for the production of radio programmes including the use of ICTs.
The training course comes as Senegal, as many other countries in the region, has recently seen a spectacular development of community radios due to the liberalisation of legislation.
UNESCO gives high priority to providing and strengthening communication and information facilities at the level of local communities. Such facilities offer basic tools for introducing and managing community-centred development and change and to strengthen cultural and linguistic diversity.
