2011 marks the tenth anniversary of the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, which represented a turning point in the way the international community thinks about culture, cooperation and development, refuting the theory of the clash of civilizations, and proposing an alternative vision that sees the diversity as a positive strength.
The Declaration has provided the conceptual basement for the development of diverse standard-setting instruments:
Cultural diversity needs today to be addressed in terms of dialogue, dynamics, and relate to the new specific challenges it may pose for languages, educational systems, news and entertainment media and the business world.
The celebration was held on the 2nd November at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris through a special programme featuring the cultural show in broadcast below.
