Best practices

UNESCO would like to highlight examples of good practices brought to the attention of the Secretariat which have been developed by States Parties to the Hague Convention of 1954 and its two (1954 and 1999) Protocols. These examples are emblematic of implementation activities that should be fostered in order to promote the protection of cultural heritage in all circumstances.

The activities developed by States, thanks to the international assistance of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural property in the Event of Armed Conflict, are also set out. As of today, only El Salvador and Mali have made such requests in 2011 and 2013 respectively, and the Committee successfully responded to their demands. These activities may be considered as a channel to encourage other States Parties to the 1999 Second Protocol to make requests for international assistance, including financial support, to the Committee with a view to help them with the implementation of measures to protect cultural heritage.
