Inter-cultural Creative Education Observatory
The Hong Kong Institute of Education is one of eight higher education institutions funded by the University Grants Council of Hong Kong.
The UNESCO Observatory for Research in Local Culture and Creativity in Education (RLCCE) was established in 2011 under the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the Hong Kong Institute of Education (CCA, FAS). The Department of Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA) is the only academic department in Hong Kong focusing on creative arts education. Building on the ‘Education+’ philosophy by ensuring that its courses constantly evolve to reflect the role of the arts within the wider society, it aims to empower skilled, knowledgeable and caring graduates with the ability to achieve academic and artistic excellence via transformative roles as innovative educators, enterprising arts practitioners, creative thinkers and cultural leaders in the 21st century.
The UNESCO Observatory for Research in Local Culture and Creativity in Education will act as a cleaning house of information on arts and culture education aimed at fostering collaboration between the UNESCO Arts in Education Observatories and arts education organizations in Hong Kong SAR, China. A joint repository will be developed to facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange of best and innovative practices of arts and local culture in education. The observatory will also undertake comparative research on current arts and cultural education policies and structures in East Asia.
