UNESCO Creative Cities Beijing Summit

The UNESCO Creative Cities Beijing Summit was held from 20 to 23 October 2013. 

This important Summit, gathering representatives of the members of UNESCO Creative Cities Network, policy-makers, entrepreneurs and academics, highlighted the importance of creativity for urban sustainability and for sustainable development. At the same time, the Beijing Summit set a milestone in shaping new avenues of cooperation between members of the Network. 

The Agenda adopted by the Mayors’ Roundtable in Beijing defined creativity as “a special kind of renewable resource and human talent, based on innovation.”  Thus, it commits Creative Cities to deepen cooperation through learning and sharing practices, in order to accelerate social, economic and cultural development. At a time of economic and technological globalization, the members of the Network reaffirmed the importance of preserving and maintaining cultural diversity, working through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
