First Workshop for the Indicator Suite in Colombia

The first national workshop for the UNESCO Culture for Development Indicator Suite took place in the Escuela Taller in Bogota on 10 May 2011, courtesy of the partnership with the Ministry of Culture in Colombia.

This workshop launched the test phase of the Indicator Suite in Colombia, a country which boasts an impressive track record of public policies for culture and of initiatives to develop cultural statistics.

Experts and over 30 representaties from development cooperation institutions such as the Ministry of Culture, Education, Technology, Communication and Information, DANE, CERLALC, AECID, DNP, PNUD, the Central Bank of Colombia and SENA.

The technical workshop established important interinstitutional frameworks to elaborate culture for development indicators. Participants committed to associate themselves with this collaborative process and offered contributions to improve the Suite and to adapt it to the Colombian context.

In a way this initiative is an indicator itself of how we are no longer afraid to find opportunities to measure more of what we are doing in the cultural sector. We could not have done this 20 years ago; it would have been impossible”. Fernando Barón Tovar, Deputy Director for Culture at the Central Bank of Colombia.
