eYeka announces results of co-created communication campaign for UNESCO's World Press Freedom Day 2012
eYeka, the global market leader in online co-creation, has announced today the results of its online co-creation project to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of expression and the safety of journalists on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on 3 May.
eYeka's global community of creative consumers was challenged to create a poster (either using photography or illustration) that shows the importance of having a free press and ensuring the safety of journalists. The images needed to be strongly narrative and raise awareness of the importance of freedom of expression and the safety of journalists.
The online creative competition started on 2 April and ended on 23 April 2012. Over this 3-week period, a hundred striking images, licensed under creative commons and meeting the criteria of originality, quality, relevance and narrative, were accepted. The topic’s importance resonated with many around the world with participants hailing from 23 countries including Algeria, Argentina, Belarus, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Russian Federation, Spain, Singapore, Uganda, UK, USA, Venezuela and Vietnam.
The top images are featured on the UNESCO webpage dedicated to World Press Freedom Day and made available to 195 Member States for their celebrations during World Press Freedom Day on 3 May.
The top winning images will also be broadcast during the celebration of World Press Freedom Day by UNESCO in Tunisia and during a ceremony at the United Nations in New York. Following the event, the top images will remain as features on UNESCO's website and a certificate from UNESCO regarding their quality contribution to World Press Freedom Day will be given to the winners.

One of the themes of this celebration of World Press Freedom Day in 2012 is ‘media freedom has the power to transform society’. It is clear, through the images produced, that civil society, now more than ever, is convinced of this message. UNESCO is pleased to highlight such voices from around the world in favour of press freedom and in support of UNESCO’s mandate."
