1st South-American meeting of officials specialized in the fight against the illicit traffic of cultural property

A series of workshops was organized for the training of police units from a number of Latin American countries in the fight against the illicit traffic of cultural property, in particular as regards its normative, conceptual, legal, police and cooperation aspects.
The participants were trained on general aspects of archeology, paleontology, cultural property and works of art. Information was shared on existing international legislation in the field, in particular international conventions as well as on existing legal and operational tools for the return and restitution of artefacts and cultural heritage.
The seminars were organized by the Regional Interpol Office in Buenos Aires, in joint cooperación with UNESCO's Headquarters and the UNESCO Office in Montevideo.
