The facts are clear: cultural property from Southeast Europe continues to enter illicit trafficking networks. The lack of security at some archaeological sites leaves them vulnerable to illegal excavation. Museums, galleries and places of worship are also more exposed to theft. Moreover, a number of underwater archaeological sites in the Adriatic Sea and inland waters are subject to intense looting.
