UNESCO gives primary importance to the production and dissemination of the Cultural Heritage Protection Handbook series in the respective local languages. This programme is aimed at illustrating the appropriate measures to be implemented by museums to ensure the conservation of movable cultural heritage.

Museum professionals and local communities should take an active part in every aspect of museum management so that the conservation and preservation of cultural objects are ensured in a sustainable manner.

This can only happen with the active participation of a broader public ranging from museum staff and the personnel involved in the daily maintenance of facilities to the visiting groups, be they scholars and students working with collections, or general visitors.

Local language versions of the Handbooks will enable staff and the general public to overcome any linguistic barriers, facilitate the comprehension of the specific terminology of museum management, and render the reading enjoyable.

UNESCO strongly encourages its partners to translate the reference text into native languages, and is proud to present the fruit of joint efforts on this Web page, which is specially dedicated to the linguistic versions of the Cultural Heritage Protection Handbook.
