Regional Seminar on Underwater Heritage in Zadar, 1-4 October 2009
International archaeologists, historians and conservators met from 1 to 4 October 2009 in Zadar, Croatia for a Seminar, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, which is under the auspices of UNESCO.
Focussing mainly on the East Mediterranean region and South East Europe, but also on Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico and Thailand, the experts discussed about the ratification and implementation of the UNESCO 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage and exchanged examples of best practice of protection projects and international cooperation.
The seminar was combined with a practical workshop on the restoration and conservation of underwater archaeological finds. At the end of the seminar, an action plan was adopted.
