Rethinking Education in Africa: your inputs matter!

Drawing from local, expert knowledge, UNESCO is drafting a document ‘Rethinking Education in Africa’ that aims to spur a broad consultation and debate on a vision of education and development for a changing Africa.

Building on the UNESCO’s flagship publication “Rethinking Education: Towards a Global Common Good” (2015), this document will:

-          Outline a vision for education in Africa in light of the challenges and opportunities for sustainable human and social development in the continent, and grounded on the African Union’s Agenda 2063: The Africa we want, the Continental Education Strategy for Africa 2016-2025 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In addressing issues of identity, culture, community, and citizenship, particular focus will be placed on the realities and aspirations of youth, and of young women in particular.

-          Explore the challenges around the governance of education and knowledge in Africa as collective public goods in a changing learning landscape.

Please share your views around specific questions on relevant topics through a dedicated discussion forum that will be accessible until 15 September 2017.

Many thanks in advance for your contributions to a new vision for education in Africa!
