First Policy Review Workshop in Non-Formal Education (NFE) Supported by UNESCO
In order to support the development of the next cycle of Education Strategic Plan 2014-2018, the first policy review workshop in the Non-Formal Education (NFE) sub-sector was held from 5-7 December under the Capacity Development for Education for All (CapEFA) programme. Over one hundred participants from the Ministry of Education including sub-national departments of education, NGOs and NFE stakeholders were in attendance. The workshop was officially opened by the Minister for Education and attended by the Secretary of State and Director-General for NFE.
UNESCO presented the major findings and analysis of the existing NFE policies, NFE plans and the current Education Strategic Plan 2009 – 2013 review, followed by a presentation on the latest situation analysis of literacy, out-of-school children and programme implementation. Participants discussed major challenges to identify priorities and actions to be included in the next Education Strategic Plan.
Further policy dialogue on NFE policy and the implementation plans will be based on the major findings and analysis of the workshop. The recommendations will be proposed to the NFE sub-technical working group which will soon be established under the Joint Technical Working Group led by the Minister.
