The 1st Green Action Awards for International Schools in Indonesia
Jakarta, 30 Nov -- UNESCO Jakarta organized a Green Action Project Showcase event in which students from seven international schools in Indonesia presented ideas for promoting environmentally-friendly practices at their schools and in the wider community. The event was hosted by Jakarta International Korean School (JIKS) and featured presentations from elementary, middle and high school student groups on recycling programmes, waste reduction, alternative energy and biodiversity conservation.
In his opening address, Mr. Hubert Gijzen, Director and Representative of the UNESCO Office in Jakarta, praised the participants for finding innovative approaches to making the school environment healthier for students and staff, and for promoting environmental awareness among their peers. More than 150 students and guests attended the full day event where twelve presentations were showcased from JIKS, the German International School, Jakarta International Multicultural School, Texmaco DPS International School, Bali International School, Semarang International School and Mountianview International Christian School.
Mr. Jongbook Seon, Headmaster of Jakarta International Korean School, provided welcoming remarks in which he encouraged the students and staff from the international school community to continue to work together to share their ideas on environment awareness and sustainable practices. The Green Action Project Showcase event was organized by UNESCO Jakarta’s Education for Sustainable Development Unit and is a part of continued effort to integrate the practices and issues of sustainable development into education at all levels.
