UNESCO Doha, despite not having a Programme Specialist for Social and Human Sciences, plans to focus its activities in this sector on youth and civic engagement. It will do this by supporting Member States in their responses to social transformations in the region and by placing an emphasis on the importance of youth empowerment in education, science, culture, and communication and information.

In short, UNESCO Doha plans to contribute to social and human sciences in the region in 2012 and 2013 by:

• Promoting social inclusion in all educational, cultural, scientific and communication activities, with a view to enhancing a culture of peace and non-violence;

• Engaging young women and men in their communities to produce peaceful and inclusive social development.
