Akihiro Chiba (Japan)

Born in 1934, Mr Chiba started at UNESCO in May 1961 as Assistant Programme Specialist in the Education Sector. During his career at UNESCO, he worked at the Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education in Bangkok, where he was Deputy Director from 1978 to 1985. He has also worked as Chief of the Cooperation Unit with UNICEF and the World Food Programme, at the Education Financing Division.
He was Deputy Assistant Director-General for Education from 1985 to 1989.
