Jean Guiton (France)
Mandate: Acting ADG August 1966 – June 1967
Born in 1906, Mr Guiton worked for the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation before joining the Preparatory Commission for UNESCO in London in 1946. During his career at UNESCO, he occupied many senior positions in the Education Sector, such as Director of the Department of School and Higher Education (1963-1966). He was appointed Assistant Director-General ad interim four times: in 1950, 1956, 1960 and 1966. He retired in September 1967, and died in 1988.
