Masunori Hiratsuka (Japan)

Mandate: January 1960 – 1961

Born in 1907, Mr Hiratsuka studied at the University of Tokyo. He was a specialist in the history of education. From 1954 to 1960, he worked as professor of the history of education and Director of the Research Institute at Kyushu University. Previously, he taught at the Hiroshima Higher Normal School.

Mr Hiratsuka was a member of the board of directors of several Japanese societies for the study of education, educational philosophy and the history of education. He was Chairman of the Kyushu Society for the Study of Education and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fukuoka Association for UNESCO. He made first-hand studies of education in a number of countries, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Scandinavian countries.
