UNESCO Associated Schools are currently testing an innovative teaching tool on children’s rights in several pilot countries in cooperation with National Commissions for UNESCO.

The teaching material “For a pedagogical approach to children’s rights”, developed by UNESCO and Children of the World – Human Rights (EMDH), is designed for teachers and educators who work with children aged from 6 to 18. The aim of this kit is to help children discovering and expressing their fundamental rights. The material is organized around six essential themes:

  • social justice and equity;
  • diversity;
  • peace and conflict;
  • expression and opinions;
  • children work and education;
  • and humanitarian work

For each group age and theme, a series of specific activities are proposed, e.g. discussions, role-playing and simulations.

During the testing phase, teachers and educators are invited to share their reactions and suggestions through an evaluation sheet before the end of April 2010. After an evaluation and necessary adaptation, the final version is scheduled to be published in autumn 2010.
