Declaration promises ‘bold and decisive action’ to end HIV and AIDS epidemic

“We solemnly declare our commitment to end the epidemic with renewed political will and strong, accountable leadership,” the UN General Assembly stated in a Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS, unanimously adopted on 10 June at the close of the High-Level Meeting on AIDS (8-10 June).

UNESCO supports comprehensive education sector responses to HIV and AIDS with its programmes and activities. The Organization plays a leading role in EDUCAIDS and the UNAIDS Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) on Education.  

More than 3000 people came together at the UN for the High Level Meeting on AIDS ( 8-10 June) to take stock of the progress and challenges of the last 30 years and shape the future AIDS response. 

AIDS has claimed more than 30 million lives since it was first reported three decades ago.
