A High-Level Forum in Mombasa, Kenya (13-14 September) is aiming to ensure that Eastern African countries remain on course towards the realization of Education for All (EFA) by 2015. The 16 participating countries will share progress and experiences relating to policy and financing, capacity and implementation as well as emerging issues in education.

Measuring progress towards EFA in East Africa has been a major challenge due to lack of quality, timely, relevant data as well as the need to strengthen national capacities in monitoring and evaluation, and evidence-based policy and planning.

Ministers of Education and senior officials from the following countries will participate: Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zanzibar.

Kenya, the host country, is the current Chair of the Conference of the Ministers of Education in Africa (COMEDAF) and the Regional Chair of the Eastern African countries. Its experience in undertaking a comprehensive national assessment will be shared at the Forum.
