Focus on teacher training for early childhood care and education in Moscow

The development of teacher training policies for early childhood care and education (ECCE) is the objective of an international conference taking place in Moscow, Russian Federation on 24 – 25 June.

Education ministries from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the Russian Federation have been invited to participate, as have experts from UNESCO’s International Bureau of Education and the World Bank.

Entitled “Prospects of Pre-service Teacher Training for Early Childhood Care and Education: policy, quality, research and innovations”, the conference is organized by the UNESCO Moscow Office in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, the Russian Academy of Education, the Moscow City Education Department and  Moscow City Teacher Training  University.

The conference aims to help countries plan, carry out and manage ECCE programmes, including those for  disadvantaged and excluded groups, as well as to adapt ECCE curricula in the light of recent research on pedagogy and psychology, with special focus on mother-tongue teaching. Recommendations for national capacity development on training and re-training personnel for quality ECCE (policy, systems, scientific research, innovations and curriculum development) will be developed.

Intended as a platform for discussion, exchange, sharing of best practice and developing recommendations on cooperation between the participating countries in the field of ECCE training, the meeting will also highlight recent higher education research and practice.

The organizers hope to launch a dialogue promote equal access to qualitative ECCE by contributing to the preparation of the World Conference on ECCE which will take place in Moscow, on 27- 29 September 2010.
